It’s never as profitable
to be ahead of the curve as atop it: This is an
axiom Fishbone knows too well. Since the mid-’80s,
their trailblazing stylistic mash-ups have mixed
everything—ska, funk, new wave, punk, metal,
jazz—while presaging the more adventurous and
unpredictable tastes of the iPod generation. Their
blend of hard rock and rap influenced countless
acts a decade later, but by then, Fishbone’s star
had lost its luster. After five albums in 10 years,
output slowed to just two LPs in the last 17 years.
Crazy Glue, a lively 2011 EP, demonstrated they
still have it, something to which anyone who’s
seen them live will readily attest. The Mike Dillon
Band and Attila & the Huns open.
