Fierce Reads Tour

When: Fri., June 14, 7 p.m. 2013

I love Young Adult books like I love pudding, but I also feel a relentless need to mock the trends in that field of literature in the wake of Gossip Girl and Twilight. So let's look at the four YA SciFi/fantasy titles that are part of this tour at Quail Ridge Books. Crewel by Gennifer Albin is about a 16-year-old who has the power to alter reality but must hide it. Of Triton by Anna Banks exemplifies the new "mermaids" trend, dealing with a girl who finds out she's half-Poseidon princess and is caught between two underwater kingdoms. Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo concerns a teenage girl who's a "Sun Summoner" and must deal with a notorious privateer as she flees to a new land to battle "The Darkling." And in Unremembered by Jessica Brody, the lone survivor of a plane crash, an amnesiac girl with no record of her previous existence, finds herself at the center of a mysterious conspiracy and stuff. One of these books might be good, even great, or inspire a hugely successful motion-picture franchise. But we can't tell you which one. You'll have to find out by attending this event— and paying for a copy of the book you want signed, as it's a signing-line ticketed affair. Book purchase required for ticket. —Zack Smith
