Fall-ternative: Comedy

Laughter is the best medicine and a good belly laugh can be the best stress buster. If you're looking for some comedic relief, get your belly to Bully's Basement, where once a month Smitty and J.B. Productions keep it real and bring together some of the best national and local comedy talent. "I'm a small-town guy in Durham, and I wanted to start these comedy shows to make people laugh," Smitty says. And the laughter is contagious. Whether it's a local first-timer, or a seasoned veteran from BET, you will be entertained. A recent show included an impromptu episode of The Dating Game and an impression of the Crocodile Hunter in search of a different, more local kind of "crock." The monthly shows have something for everyone, though they err on the side of nasty and naughty. Catch your next laugh Oct. 13 at the Basement in Bully's, 1102 Broad Street in Durham. Call 491-6072 for details.
