The Burroughs
Greensboro's Evan Garmon leads this quartet through plainspoken country blues, with a vein of wry, winking humor shot through the gentle, steady laments. "Ruby's Talkin' Blues," a recollection of his grandmother's rural idiosyncrasies and rather brusque charms, represents Garmon at his best, pulling characters from his pocket and developing them in real-time. Ben Best, co-creator of Eastbound & Down, is an occasional member of the band. Thomasville trio Miles to the Clouds supply their earnest singer-songwriter fare in the opening slot. —Grayson Currin
