ESP, Dubtown Cosmonauts, Funkuponya

When: Thu., April 18, 10 p.m. 2013
Price: $5

Surely it's a strange coincidence that the calendar overflows with jam-band bills on April 20, right? Fortunately for fans of the genre or holiday, Deep South spreads the sticky with this triptych. Greensboro quintet Electric Soul Pandemic's eclectic tendencies occasionally push into messy sprawls that are ambitious nonetheless. Eight-piece Wilmington ensemble Dubtown Cosmonauts focuses on covers more than originals, pulling from the catalogs of the Dead, Phish, Widespread and the Allmans. Hometown boys Funkuponya deliver succinct, melodic instrumentals that live up to the name. —Spencer Griffith
