Eno River Tapestries

When: Feb. 8-March 31 2012

Silvia Heyden's colorful, vibrant tapestries are grounded in her daily walks along the Eno River. The Bull City Arts Collaborative (BCAC) hosts a reception for an exhibit of her work while celebrating the DVD release of A Weaverly Path, an acclaimed documentary film about Heyden. Now in her 80s, Heyden has completed some 800 woven pieces that represent her experience of nature through the intimate working of her loom to produce formally challenging fiber works. Heyden's Bauhaus sensibilities come out in personal meditations in the film as she describes the resonance between the back-and-forth motion of the loom and natural, seasonal patterns. The film was directed by Kenny Dalsheimer, whose The Groove Productions resides at BCAC. A Weaverly Path had a big 2011, with screenings at the Big Sky and Hot Springs documentary festivals, as well as the International Festival of Films on Art. Dalsheimer also curated this exhibition at the gallery. The reception runs 6–9 p.m.; the exhibit continues through March 31. —Chris Vitiello
