“Elvis Is in the Building”

When: Fri., Jan. 11, 6 p.m. 2013
Price: Free

Elvis Presley would have turned 78 this week, which might cause you to recoil when envisioning what his 2012 Christmas special would have been like. Fortunately, Andy Warhol—another superstar taken from us too soon—preserved The King in a series of 1963 silkscreen paintings, one of which made headlines in 2009 when it sold for $100 million. The North Carolina Museum of Art celebrates the hanging of Warhol's "Elvis I and II" from that series amid the permanent collection in the West Building with a night of tunes and Elvis-themed food and beverages (no pharmaceuticals though). The 6 p.m. event is free. —Chris Vitiello
