Duke University got out of the arts kiddie pool a couple years ago by starting the school's first-ever MFA program, in experimental documentary arts. Isn't it about time they added a dance MFA too? For proof-of-concept, look no further than their November Dances, in which dance department faculty and students show choreographic work ranging from modern to African-American to ballet. Faculty members Ava Vinesett, Tyler Walters and Andrea Woods Valdés present their work at this year's show, interspersed with performances by advanced students Ellen Brown, Stephanie Joe and Jayne Ratliff. —Chris Vitiello
