Dropkick Murphys, Old Man Markley, The Mahones

When: Tue., June 4, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $28

For longtime Dropkick Murphys fans, the band's shifting directions were apparent as early as 2003. That year's Blackout, the fourth studio effort from the Boston-Irish punks, shed most of their overt Celt-folk trappings (and Pogues rips) for a more streamlined pub-rock sound. In 2005, The Warriors Code offered "I'm Shipping Up to Boston," a song that launched the band to massive popularity with its prominent placement in Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning The Departed. The ubiquitous hit soundtracked its share of dorm-room binges, sporting events and prime-time commercials, thereby setting a new template for the band. Almost a decade on, Dropkick Murphys are still riding the same mug-swinging cadence and arena-rock power chords on their latest, January's Signed and Sealed in Blood. With Old Man Markley and The Mahones. —Bryan C. Reed
