By day, Doug Guild is the president and CEO of Prescott Environmental Associates, a Chapel Hill consulting firm that helps clients keep their operations clean and green. By night, Guild goes by the name of Doug Prescott, performing soul/blues tunes that take the hard-hitting shots at corporate excess that wouldn't fly in the workplace. It's a little like how the rich and excessive Bruce Wayne dons the cape and mask to crush thugs as Batman, only Prescott throws on colorful leisure shirts and jeans. His new album's first single is called "It's About Oil," and it pulls no punches. Over a Claptonesque organ-and-guitar combo, Prescott speaks his mind about what he sees as greedy U.S. excursions into the Middle East. The blasts are broad and easy to understand—like his music. This release party for his most recent album, The Journey & the Deep Blue Sea, will include a host of polished musicians whose professionalism is every bit as exacting as their lead singer's strong political stances. The $5 show starts at 6:30 p.m. —Jordan Lawrence
