Dinosaur Jr, Mac McCaughan

When: Mon., June 27, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $25-28

Nearly six years ago to the day, Superchunk and Dinosaur Jr. shared the stage at Cat's Cradle. For Superchunk, it was a rare set for the hometown crowd; for Dinosaur Jr., it was—at that point—an even rarer set by the band's pretty unfuckwithable original lineup, featuring drummer Murph, bassist Lou Barlow and J Mascis. Merge, the label run by half of Superchunk, had just reissued the first three albums by that lineup, so both bands made a pact—they'd play only tracks from their first three LPs. It was explosive and perfect, a night that served as a premonition that, in the next few years, both bands would make some of their best music yet. Tonight, Dinosaur Jr. returns to perform Bug, the last and most unrelentingly catchy of those first three LPs, in its entirety. Superchunk's Mac McCaughan opens. As if you needed another excuse to go, Henry Rollins will interview Dinosaur Jr. before they play. Yes, Henry Rollins. —Grayson Currin
