Dexter Romweber, Molly Sue Gonzalez & the Mean Mean Men, Revolutionary Sweethearts

When: Fri., Feb. 8, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $6

Three acts with real spark combine for old-school rock, roots and smoky jazz. Fresh new Raleigh duo The Revolutionary Sweethearts are driven by Brandy Flickinger's crisp coo, dreamy like a romantic getaway with a hint of Norah Jones. She plays drums while hubby Richard mans the baritone guitar, assisting the crossover from folky flutter to moody distortion. Molly Sue Gonzalez & the Mean Mean Men are up next, blending country rockabilly and soul. The 25-year-old Nashville singer is heavily influenced by Wanda Jackson but also evokes Dusty Springfield with her soulful singing. Closing the evening is Dexter Romweber, who covers all that territory—country, jazz torch, rockabilly, rock—with mesmerizing intensity and awe-inspiring skill. He's a rightful legend and heir to the spirit of Sun Records. —Chris Parker
