Desert Noises, Morning Teleportation

When: Thu., Aug. 1, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $10
Rising out of a momentarily hot Provo, Utah, scene that includes Imagine Dragons & Neon Trees, Desert Noises explored spacious epics with jangly undertones on their 2011 debut, Mountain Sea. After post-album turmoil, they settled on a quartet lineup that's dedicated to the long haul, having toured from coast to coast several times in just 18 months. Like sun on leather, the road has toughened & tightened their sound, evident on last year's three-song I Won't See You EP. A prelude to an upcoming full-length expected out early next year, it's propulsive & biting, less suggestive of psych-folk than indie rock. Kentucky band Morning Teleportation opens. —Chris Parker
