Though mostly ignored at the box office in its initial release, Richard Linklater's 1993 follow-up to Slacker has enjoyed a considerable reputation on video and DVD in the years since, not just for its incisive humor but for the many young talents featured in its ensemble, including Ben Affleck, Parker Posey, Milla Jovovich and Matthew McConaughey as the world's most charming creepy older guy. It's a look at the last day of high school in 1976 that could stand in for pretty much any small town at any time; there's a great soundtrack and plenty of moments that could make anyone wince in acknowledgment. Just remember, if you decide that you really want to relate to the characters, please keep all illegal smoking-based activities limited to outside the theater. This is a respectable establishment.
