Louisiana's Dax Riggs is historically a wild man. Having led the outlandish and overlooked sludge band Acid Bath (bros had songs called "The Bones of Baby Dolls" and "Dr. Seuss Is Dead," after all) and the gnarled blues duo Deadboy & Elephantman, Riggs has had his fair share of crazy moments on stage and on record. You might find last year's Say Goodnight to the World redemptive in its surprise, then; demons and ghosts still chase Riggs' songs, but there's an almost shoegaze quality to some of his best work now, as if the complete arrangement has become just as important as the short-term impact. It's the work of a restless musician finally determined to channel that energy into something bigger than the moment. —Grayson Currin
