Malibu, California, band Simon Dawes dropped both the Simon and the post-punk proclivities around the same time they lost a founding member. Thankfully, Dawes regrouped in Los Angeles in 2009, flaunting a folk-rock sound and a debut release on Dave Matthews' ATO Records. Lead singer and songwriter Taylor Goldsmith's captivating lyrics play over warm, soulful harmonies and shuffling rhythms. Expect a preview of songs from the bands latest, Nothing is Wrong, due next month. Durham roots rockers Luego and Chapel Hill's Wylie Hunter & the Cazadores open. —Ashley Melzer
