Customer Appreciation Day: Josh Moore, See Gulls, The Human Eyes, The Dead Tongues

When: Sun., Aug. 31, 4 p.m. 2014
Cat's Cradle and Weaver Street, Cliff's Meat Market and the fabled apartments above, the quaint downtown and the abutting country roads: Carrboro has longed seemed to be the Triangle's easygoing, intellectual idyll, a haven secure from the development that's crowding the rest of the Triangle. It's not immune, of course, evidenced by the condos and hotels now sprouting between those landmarks. But even if you see them, you can't really feel those additions from the gravel parking lot of Orange County Social Club, Carrboro's neighborhood watering nexus. The annual "customer appreciation day" of the Triangle's quintessential community bar puts four excellent local bands in the back—the brilliantly fragile singer Josh Moore, the bracing and magnetic See Gulls, the upbeat and anxious Human Eyes, and the shambling Ryan Gustafson's The Dead Tongues. Most telling, though? In addition to the usual suds and spirits, the bar will supply free juice for all the kids, making this a family-friendly bar celebration. —Grayson Haver Currin
