Currents: Photographs from the Collection of Allen Thomas Jr

When: June 28-Oct. 7 2013

In its first two years, CAM Raleigh hung very little photography on its walls. Suddenly the museum can't get enough of it. Melanie Schiff's work has been in CAM's main space for a month, and Currents—a show of highlights from Wilson photographer Allen Thomas Jr.'s collection curated by Nils Ericson—opens Friday with a preview reception. If you're the type who reads the wall tags at museums, you know Thomas' name from works he loaned to recent exhibits at the Nasher, Ackland and N.C. Museum of Art. Currents zooms in on a contemporary facet of his collection, featuring work by emerging photographers such as Michele Abeles, Matthew Baum, Matthew Brandt, Debbie Grossman, Carolyn Janssen, Maciek Jasik, Sarah Anne Johnson, Chris McCaw and Arne Svenson. —Chris Vitiello
