Cowboy Junkies

When: Sat., March 9, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $40

The calling card of Cowboy Junkies is a cover—an abbreviated, narcotized take on "Sweet Jane." But there's no mistaking Margo Timmins' breathy alto, as she sounds like a lullaby and hits like an uppercut. Though their biggest successes were contemporaneous a quarter-century ago, the Junkies continued, retreating into native Canada's loving embrace and forging a 16-album catalog of elegiac and atmospheric music. Their latest project, The Nomad Series, features four thematically distinct albums released during two years. The final volume—beautifully diaphanous and haunting—arrived last spring. —Chris Parker
