Collisions: Where Past Meets Present

When: Sept. 14-Oct. 20 2012
Price: Free

As the annual Southeastern College Art Conference graces Durham for the first time in its 68-year existence, the Durham Arts Council is hosting a closing reception for two exhibitions of SECAC-related work called Collisions: Where Past Meets Present. Organized by Meredith College art and art history professors Beth Mulvaney and Holly Fischer, the exhibits feature works chosen by N.C. State art and design professor Charles Joyner. The Durham Arts Council's Allenton and SunTrust Galleries show 45 juried works from 40 artists; the Semans Gallery displays Meredith College faculty work. Counting members from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, the SECAC brings administrators, academics and artists together to talk about the common issues in their fields. The free reception is from 5–7 p.m. —Chris Vitiello
