Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters: The Cone Sisters of Baltimore

When: Sun., Nov. 4 2012
Price: $15 non-members

The Nasher has staked out a claim, locally and nationally, to curating art that's contemporary, demotic, multidisciplinary and multicultural. But starting today and continuing through Feb. 10 is a show of more traditional, canonical masters. This is the third and final stop for a travelling exhibition of the remarkable collection of modern masters assembled by two wealthy Baltimore ladies, Claribel and Etta Cone. In addition to the Mattises and Picassos, there are works by

Gauguin, van Gogh, Renoir and others. And in the modern fashion of the time, the Cones collected decorative objects from Africa and Asia, which will also be seen in the show. Ticket prices top out at $15 for non-member adults who choose a guided tour. —David Fellerath
