Class of 1984

When: Wed., Nov. 9, 8 p.m. 2011
Price: $5.50

Fans of the popular radio show The Best Show on WFMU are likely already familiar with the 1982 gangbanger classic Class of 1984, a favorite of host Tom Scharpling. Riptide's Perry King is a young music teacher who must battle the baddest of all bad high school gangs, led by Timothy Van Patten's Stegman, who, to the blare of Alice Cooper's "I Am the Future," deals drugs and runs a prostitution ring but is actually pretty good at music when he's not attacking his teacher's wife. Stand and Deliver this ain't. Michael J. Fox has one of his first roles in this cult classic, along with Roddy McDowell as a veteran teacher. Lord knows how they'd try to remake this in the world of "No Child Left Behind" and "It Gets Better." The screening starts at 8 p.m. and includes plenty of classic trailers for a mere $5.50. —Zack Smith
