Chicago's Mannequin Men recently released their third album, a self-titled platter of ambling pop-rock bound to be called garage rock simply because it refuses a sterilizing polish in its production. But the songs are models of effortless guitar pop, hardly consistent with the reckless, sloppy image the "garage" tag conjures. Nashville's Cheap Time, led by sardonic songwriter Jeffrey Novak, hew more closely to the mold of garage rock ne'er-do-well, though the deadpan scuzz and skewed sense of melody on last year's Fantastic Explanations (and Similar Situations) put the band in the league of Aussie rockers Eddy Current Suppression Ring. Drama Queen opens the 9 p.m. show. —Bryan C. Reed
