CenterFest is back in the loop, baby! Marking its 38th year, the huge art and performance festival returns to Durham's Downtown Loop. Sponsored by the Durham Arts Council, CenterFest is now bigger than ever, spreading 130 juried fine artists (including 82 North Carolina artists and 18 Durham artists) and 63 performing groups over the burgeoning downtown on Main, Chapel Hill, Morris, Market, Corcoran and Parrish Streets in the Five Points and CCB Plaza areas. Five stages host continuous music from bands such as Peter Lamb and the Wolves, Gospel Inspirations, the Sunny Performing Arts Group, Will McBride, the Durham Jazz Orchestra, Flamenco Carolina, the TROSA Band, the Little River Cloggers and the Freylach Time Klezmer Band. Debuting this year is the Creative Community Exposition, presenting creative-class businesses such as 3-D printers, mobile application producers and toy companies that fall outside the purview of the fine arts. Plenty of hands-on activities for kids and yummy food options abound. —Chris Vitiello
