Celebrate the New VAE

When: Thu., Sept. 1, 7 p.m. 2011
Price: $20

It's a party and a chance to cheer as the nonprofit VAE moves for the fourth time in its 31-year history to a beautiful new home at 309 W. Martin St. That's on the street with the new Contemporary Art Museum (CAM), Flanders Gallery, designbox and the rest of the artists in Raleigh's red-hot warehouse district. Tonight the preview starts at 7 p.m. and ends—???. It's a ticketed event for a $20 contribution. Friday, Sept. 2, First Friday in Raleigh, is when VAE makes its official debut—free—from 6–9 p.m. Gallery space in the new VAE is three times what it was in City Market, which means more member-artists and more visiting artists can show at the same time. VAE staff, too, need elbow room now that they're managing Raleigh's annual Sparkcon. The preview party is 7–10 p.m. at the gallery, followed by an after-party around the corner at Spy. —Bob Geary
