Carolina Ballet's final program of the season features a new work by company artistic director Robert Weiss and a revival of his older ballet of the evergreen story Beauty and the Beast, which is set to a lovely piano composition by Karl Moraski, who will perform live. Principal dancers for opening night are Richard Krusch as the Beast and Jan Burkhard as Beauty. Though Weiss' new Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 features recorded music rather than a live orchestra and chorus, he's a highly musical choreographer, and has a deep affinity for Beethoven (Grosse Fugue). Expect some heart-swelling dance. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday–Saturday, with 2 p.m. matinees Saturday and Sunday. —Kate Dobbs Ariail
