Camille A. Brown & Dancers

When: July 9-11, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $16-25

American Dance Festival debuts are big deals, and this one by Camille A. Brown and her company promises to be unforgettable. The virtuosic dancer and choreographer is renowned for her skill and success on both the Broadway and modern dance stages, which she bridges with an impeccable dramatic sense. She'll present MR. TOL E. RAncE, a theatrical examination of the roles that black performers play, cut with a smart, laser wit. Brown doesn't hold back, ripping the top off black stereotypes and yanking the guts out to show them to you. All three nights will feature post-performance discussions moderated by Duke luminaries Mark Anthony Neal, Andrea Woods Valdés and Richard J. Powell. —Chris Vitiello
