A legendary poet and a precocious fox provide the excitement at this weekend's NCMA summer film series, with screenings of Bright Star and Fantastic Mr. Fox. While not acclaimed by mainstream audiences, both films were directed by cinematic auteurs renowned for their directorial flair and praised by critics for their stunning visuals. Bright Star, directed by enigmatic Jane Campion (The Piano) and screening tonight, centers on the last years of John Keats (Ben Whishaw) and the incongruous love affair he had with Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish), which changed Keats forever. Fantastic Mr. Fox, directed by the whimsical Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited) and screening tomorrow, is based on the children's novel by Roald Dahl concerning a wild fox who can't put his rambunctious ways behind him for the sake of his family. Shot completely in stop-motion animation and voiced-over by George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Bill Murray, among others, the film is definitely not just for kids. Catch both screenings at 8:30 p.m. for $4. —Belem Destefani
