Bowerbirds, Mount Moriah

When: Sat., Dec. 8, 9:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $12-14

2012 turned out to be a very good year for these two Triangle scene stalwarts. Bowerbirds kicked it off with The Clearing, an album that found the group, after an extended hiatus that threatened to become permanent, taking their down-to-earth folk-like music to surprising, and ultimately successful, new places. For like-minded compatriots Mount Moriah, it was the latter half of the year that bore the sweetest fruit. Merge Records signed the group and reissued their self-released self-titled 2011 debut, a sterling collection of rootsy rock tunes highlighted by Heather McEntire's warm and weathered vocals. A follow-up, Mount Temple, is due in 2013. With Bowerbirds also hinting they'll have a new album out next year, this show is liable to feature a healthy mix of old standbys and soon-to-be favorites. —David Raposa
