With a voice full of life, former sharecropper Boo Hanks—who reportedly shares a lineage with both Abraham Lincoln and Blind Boy Fuller—is an authentic master of the fingerpicked Piedmont style. For good reason, too: He's played it since growing up in the hills of rural Vance County, well before Kerr Lake existed. Fellow Music Maker act Red Rover is Hillsborough's Tim and Susan Wells, who are sometimes joined by a few friends. They wield an array of instruments, including banjo, fiddle, guitar, ukulele, washtub bass, harmonica and spoons on harmony-heavy string-band traditionals. Look for the occasional country or blues relic, too. The show begins at 5 p.m. with donations accepted via the famous Saxapahaw swan. —Spencer Griffith
