Bitter Resolve's first LP, Bows and Arrows Against the Lightning, ensconces the Chapel Hill trio within a healthy tradition of local bands that aren't necessarily metal but still hit hard. The band certainly identifies in a heavy direction, with Sabbath-style riff-worship, fuzzed-to-death bass and stoner-rock drums. Yet there's a sort of space-grunge feel to Bitter Resolve, with astronomical themes and vocal effects bubbling through a cauldron of viscous rock. It'll be interesting to see if crunch or psych-prog wins out on their upcoming album The Early Interstellar Medium, slated for release by the end of the year. Blood Red Sky closes and Drag Your Chains opens the 9 p.m. show, which costs $5. —Corbie Hill
