Birds of Avalon; Tift Merritt

BIRDS OF AVALON's second effort for Volcom Entertainment, the EP Outer Upper Inner, will be released Tuesday, March 8. The Raleigh quintet has no local shows scheduled at the moment, mostly because the tour that begins with a show in Charlotte the day the six-song EP hits shelves won't end until an April 16 date in Athens, Ga. Along the way, they'll play with Monotonix, Black Mountain and Dark Meat, plus a host of shows at South by Southwest, in Austin, Texas. ... TIFT MERRITT's third studio album, Another Country, was released Tuesday, Feb. 26, on Concord Music Group's Fantasy Records, following an appearance on The Late Show with Jay Leno on Monday. Merritt will perform at Carolina Theatre Saturday, March 22, with Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek.
