Birds & Arrows

When: Fri., June 24, 9:30 p.m. 2011
Price: $5

On their second LP, We're Gonna Run, Birds & Arrows leans toward the rock end of the folk-rock spectrum, channeling Radiohead and Pink Floyd without losing that essential Americana core. Cellist-about-town Josh Starmer's tasteful melodic textures are a welcome addition to what was previously a husband-and-wife duo. Birdlips, in the middle of this three-band bill, remain a coed two-piece, playing keys-and-12-string folk with a Summer of Love atmosphere. While some of the trappings may be anachronistic, the songwriting, the vocal harmonies and the psychedelic jangle are undeniable. The patient country-folk of Skylar Gudasz and the Ugly Girls rounds out this fine bill. —Corbie Hill
