I never imagined I'd become a mattress salesman!
All I really wanted was a replacement for my seven year-old Beautyrest. It was never top-of-the-line, but in 1997 it had cost more than any bed I'd ever owned.
Then, an old friend told me about his new mattress. It was the latest thing, totally healthy in both materials and ergonomics. I thought they were crazy to spend $2500 on a bed but made a note of the manufacturer, so I could research online.
That was the first time I heard the word "latex" used in connection with a mattress.
I learned about the comfort advantages of latex, how it supports your body and relieves pressure the way memory foam does, but without the use of petrochemicals. The more I learned about the health benefits of latex (hypoallergenic, anti-microbial, chemical and dust-mite free) the more I wondered why someone wasn't making a mattress out of 100% natural latex for increasingly health-conscious consumers.
Then I discovered SavvyRest (www.savvyrest.com). They emphasizes organic materials in their casings (only the zipper, piping and thread are not certified organic) and their fair trade procurement policy makes them a perfect choice for those who want to support sustainable commerce. Since the casings and foundtions are made in High Point, it's almost a local purchase for us in the Tirangle. I'd never really thought about chemicals in a mattress, but as I read about fire-retardents, dust mite poisons, glues and outgassing, I was horrified at the thought of inhaling all these toxins during the third of my life I'll spend in bed.
So, I gave SavvyRest a call. As we talked, I became convinced that this is the best sleep system available. combing customized comfort with incredible longevity (a SavvyRest should last 30+ years!)
Needless to say, I bought a bed. I also asked SavvyRest if anyone sold for them in the Triangle. That was five years ago and after selling from our home for the first couple of years, I now have a small storefront with a warehouse annex. I have the full range of SavvyRest products on display. including mattresses, pillows, toppers, mattress pads, and pet beds.
