Beth McKee

When: Fri., June 14, 9:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $10-12

Beth McKee played keyboards in Big Easy bayou-country act Evangeline from the late '80s to mid-'90s, then took a dozen years off before returning as a solo artist with 2009's I'm That Way. She followed that batch of Bobby Charles covers last year with an album of originals, Next to Nowhere. It's an energetic effort full of swamp boogie, tender country ballads, gospel-funk and deep-groove blues. That's a broad palette, but McKee's versatile vocals are up to the challenge. She segues easily between brassy belter and country crooner, finding a stylistic sweet spot between Bonnie Raitt and Linda Ronstadt. —Chris Parker
