If ever you've needed a multicultural event that is completely child friendly, look no further. El Pueblo Inc. is hosting El Dia de los Ninos/ El Dia de los Libros (Children's Day/Book Day) between April 26 and May 4 and it seems unlikely that you're going to find anything more family oriented than this. The celebration is targeted to local Latino families in an effort to get everyone out to the library and promote bilingualism through reading. Families can also enjoy music, storytelling, pinatas and refreshments while meeting other families from the various communities. Many Latin American countries celebrate Children's Day on April 30 and in 1997 author Pat Mora introduced El Dia de los Libros in Texas to encourage people to read to children. Since then the event has grown significantly through a grant from the Kellogg Foundation and El Pueblo is trying to bring the festivities to seven counties across the state. Check out these dates and times around the Triangle: April 30 at 7 p.m. at the North Regional Library in Raleigh, May 3 at the Chapel Hill Public Library at 3:00 p.m., and May 4 at 2:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Durham. Visit www.elpueblo.org for more information and updated times and directions.
