Withholding sex from men in order to promote peace? Seems counterproductive at best, but it worked as a plot-line for Aristophanes' Lysistrata and serves as a loose inspiration for Lissa Brennan's play called Loose Lips Sink Ships (pictured right). The North Carolina-based Shakespeare & Originals theater company will be producing and performing this comedy that strays into the World War II-era and investigates the intimate and explosive relationships of five couples that range from a cultural philanthropist and society matron, to a fading Southern belle and virile young farmhand. The play's leading ladies seduce and use sex as a weapon to win battles and end all war. Loose Lips Sink Ships has recently been chosen as part of The Lysistrata Project, a worldwide cry for peace through the performing arts in Chicago, San Francisco and Pine Lakes, Ga. All shows will be held at Manbites Dog Theater, 703 Foster St., in Durham, and run Thursdays to Sundays, April 10-13 and April 17-20; and Thursday to Saturday, April 24-26. Call 682-3343 for showtimes and tickets.
