BB King, Robert Cray

When: Sun., April 21, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $58.75-132.25

What's left to say about B.B. King? At age 87, he's a legend with such stand-alone status that the noun no longer fits. He is a style and a source, a champion and catalyst. But you already knew all that. What's worth remembering, though, is that B.B. King was the first headliner to take the massive DPAC stage back in 2008. Since then, the $46.8 million room has overcome a surfeit of skepticism to become a destination for people across the region by mixing comedy and off-Broadway productions, Top 40 shows and revered icons, from King and Morrissey to Leonard Cohen and, recently, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell. It's an investment that, so far, has paid off for the cultural fabric of the Triangle by understanding that it's part of that fabric, and not above it. The Robert Cray Band opens.—Grayson Currin
