Barenaked Ladies released a new album only last month, while Ben Folds Five offered a new title—its first in 13 years, or since Ben Folds struck out without bassist Robert Sledge and drummer Darren Jessee—last year. One could argue, then, that both of these one-time hitmakers are touring in support of fresh records, but that's what young bands playing small clubs do, right? Both BFF and BNL now run on the very full tank of '90s nostalgia, crowding the set lists with decades-old smashes and shoe-horning the new material in so that the amphitheater concession vendors get their face-time, too. Indeed, though both these acts crowned charts years ago in part for the aberrant senses of humor their songs showcased, they've both aged prematurely, with symphony shows and children's albums and reunions that missed. Here's hoping Barenaked Ladies at least join Folds to add some harmonies to "Army," but that's probably too risky for the past, anyway. Guster opens. —Grayson Currin
