When: Sun., April 4, 7 p.m. 2010
fvd.aas.duke.edu/screensociety

Griffith Film Theater, Duke CampusL'Avventura screenwriter Tonino Guerra helped make this "visual poem of incomparable beauty" from Tunisia. Director Nacer Khemir (Wanderers of the Desert) helms this story of a blind dervish named Bab'Aziz, who, with his granddaughter Ishtar, searches the desert for a great reunion of dervishes' tales told by both Bab'Aziz and other travelers. The effect is like that of a fairy tale, unfolding against the deserts of Tunisia and Iran. The film, which won the Golden Dagger for Best Picture at the 2006 Muscat Film Festival, screens at 7 p.m. The free screening is sponsored by the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and the Program in the Arts of the Moving Image as part of Duke's Screen/Society series. —Zack Smith
