What do Wilco-ites do on their days off? Can't speak for all the guys, but founding bassist John Stirratt and gifted utility man Pat Sansone convene under the name The Autumn Defense to make voice-blending orchestral pop featuring the occasional Laurel Canyon breeze. It's a sound built on a foundation of well-worn Big Star records, crafted with Love (Forever Changes) and love (for all things melodic). Opening are Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion, who flip that blueprint by applying pop highlights to their flowing country-rock. —Rick Cornell
