Atlas Sound

Atlas Sound, Balkans, Carnivores

When: Wed., Dec. 14, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $15

Technically, Atlas Sound remains a side project, or how Bradford Cox spends his time when he's not fronting recent indie rock standard-bearers Deerhunter. However, aside from the personnel involved, the difference between the two groups is negligible. Ever since Deerhunter's 2007 breakthrough, Cryptograms, Cox has maintained an absurdly high quality-to-quantity ratio over the course of seven official LPs, as well as a handful of EPs and unofficial releases. The latest Atlas Sound offering, Parallax, continues that trend. The cover features a well-groomed and unobscured Cox, which is a new look for him, but the modest yet expansive pop songs that fill the album are what fans have come to expect. Opening the 8 p.m. show are Balkans and Carnivores. —David Raposa
