Activated Art

When: April 5-21 2013
Price: $10

See your favorite paintings at the Ackland come to life in this second "ekphrastic theater" event, with five 10-minute plays inspired by the museum's permanent art collection providing stories behind the pictures. Last year's show featured contributions from such notable N.C. authors as Clyde Edgerton and Daniel Wallace; this year's lineup includes returning guests as well as new talents, with plays from Howard L. Craft, Ian Finley, Marianne Gingher and Deborah Seabrooke along with UNC professor and series creator Dana Coen and student playwright Wynton Wong. The plays will be performed in front of the works that inspired them, so even if you don't like 'em, you can make up your own story afterward. Friday's performances will include a discussion with the playwrights and directors after the presentations. The show continues through April 21, but you might want to get tickets now—last year's run sold out before opening night. —Zack Smith
