Lama Surya Das, born Jeffrey Miller on New York's Long Island (where he celebrated his bar mitzvah and lettered in high school sports), is now the leading spokesperson for the emerging Western Buddhism (he regularly organizes the annual Western Buddhist Teachers Conference with the Dalai Lama).

After graduating with honors from SUNY-Buffalo, he traveled throughout Europe and the East, and has spent nearly 30 years studying Zen, vipassana, yoga, and Tibetan Buddhism with many of the great old masters of Asia.

Author of Awakening the Buddha Within and Awakening to the Sacred, Surya Das will be in the Triangle this weekend, leading two programs. The first, on Friday, May 23, from 7--9 p.m., is "Integrating Spiritual Practice into Daily Life." On Saturday, May 24, he is leading a daylong program, "Letting Go of Who You Used to Be: Buddhist Lessons on Loss, Change, and Spiritual Transformation." Find out who you might be, let go of who you used to be, and bring what's left on down to these workshops. Who knows who you might find? Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4907 Garrett Road, Durham. For more information, contact Michael Soo at mlsoo@mindspring.com.
