The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Q: What is a line party? A: A line party is an event in which you wait in line and have fun doing it.

We know, we know--you just spent an hour at the post office and aren't in the mood for sick jokes. But you can take a cue from avid Lord of the Rings fans, who have turned the wait for the much-anticipated sequel to The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring into a four-hour festival. Who wouldn't enjoy waiting in line if it meant dressing up and getting free stuff?

There were a few midnight showings of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers last night, but the big event is tonight at the Crossroads 20 in Cary from 5-8 p.m. Get your picture taken with costumed fans from the statewide LOTR fan club, try for prizes at the ring toss, costume contest or trivia contest.

Can't make it tonight? Here's a quick rundown on other events:

Friday, Dec. 19, 5-9 p.m.: Line party at the Wynnsong 15, 1807 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, with costume and trivia contests with some prizes at 6:30 and 7:30 and a trading card giveaway.

Saturday, Dec. 21 6-10:30 p.m.: Line party for the 7 and 10:30 p.m. showings at the Timberlyne, 120 Banks Drive, Chapel Hill. Trading card tournament and costume and trivia contests just before the screenings.

Wednesday through Friday, 6-10 p.m.: Trading card games. Saturday, 11 a.m.: Trading card game tournament. Lobby of the Crossroads 20.

Friday, Jan. 3, 5-7 p.m.: Tolkien's Eleventy First Birthday party, Greenshields Brewing Co., 214 East Martin St., Raleigh; 7-9 p.m.: Tir na nOg, 218 S. Blount St., (just a block from Greenshields), Raleigh.

All events sponsored by the Triangle Lord of the Rings Fan Club. For more info, e-mail donweinstein@yahoo.com, visit www.lotrfanclub.com or call individual theaters.
