A&E Spotlight
On Sunday, Oct. 28, Pat Conroy, author of The Prince of Tides and The Lords of Discipline, will host Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Doug Marlette at the UNC-Chapel Hill journalism school. Marlette, who lives in Hillsborough, is now teaching classes on humor writing and editorial cartoons at UNC-CH. There will be a lecture, slide show and discussion beginning at 3 p.m., followed by a reception for Conroy and Marlette, with a book signing immediately afterward. Marlette will talk about his movement from drawing controversial political cartoons and creating comic strips to writing the historical novel The Bridge, which concentrates on the General Textile Strike and Massacre of 1924, a little-known but important episode in North Carolina labor's history.
