On Sunday, Oct. 28, Pat Conroy, author of The Prince of Tides
and The Lords of Discipline
, will host Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Doug Marlette at the UNC-Chapel Hill journalism school. Marlette, who lives in Hillsborough, is now teaching classes on humor writing and editorial cartoons at UNC-CH. There will be a lecture, slide show and discussion beginning at 3 p.m., followed by a reception for Conroy and Marlette, with a book signing immediately afterward. Marlette will talk about his movement from drawing controversial political cartoons and creating comic strips to writing the historical novel The Bridge
, which concentrates on the General Textile Strike and Massacre of 1924, a little-known but important episode in North Carolina labor's history.
