When someone stole one of my power tools out of my shed the worst part of it was being unable to use it ever again. If I download a song the owner of the song can still play it and they can still sell it to people willing to buy it.

The fallacy that we're supposed to buy into is that The Internet is The Source of All Piracy and must therefore be strictly controlled.

Bollocks.

File sharing is simply the 21st century version of borrowing your buddy's copy of Led Zeppelin II and copying it to cassette, just like we did it in 1975. Piracy/bootlegging has been with us since recording equipment first made its way into the consumer market.

I read the David Lowery article a few weeks ago and I enjoyed his wild and varied view points on the subject of music piracy but I don't understand the point of this essay. I can understand trading in stuff you don't listen to or enjoy anymore, but why are you trying to get rid of 90% of your CDs just to purchase vinyl semi-exclusively going forward?
