TO THE EDITOR

Where to locate a mandated regional wastewater treatment plant that the State said must discharge into the Cape Fear River has been debated throughout the Triangle and in parts of southeastern NC for years. Countless stories have been filed, few more unfair and incomplete than that in the August 11 edition of the Independent Weekly, which all but ignores the last half of this decade.

In evaluating the various sites, the farther the site was from each of the towns, the more favorable rating that site received.

Another way of stating this: the 4 towns don't want a sewage plant in their community, but it is o.k. to put it into an African-American community, next to 2 churches and cemeteries, a playground, and adjacent to the historic district.

This is clearly not "government of the people, by the people, and for the people".
