Anyone making decisions to challenge Wake's model school plan based on magnet schools and economic integration should read Gerald Grant's book, "Hope and Despair in the American City: Why There Are No Bad Schools in Raleigh." It is published by Harvard U. Press and available through online bookstores.

The new board members and many who voted for them do not want economically disadvantaged students in their area's schools-plain and simple- that is what they will be changing by changing the diversity policy. Kids who are "ED" are- as shown by test scores harder to educate.

Karl, you seem to be under the impression the bus times will be reduced under the new plan. I have yet to see any evidence of that.

If you can't establish that, then where's the benefit TO THE KIDS of community schools?

I would like to see some evidence from Tedesco from scholarly journals that what he is proposing is going to work because there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.

The only priority should be the kids. We have to figure out a way to get a prime education to all of them in a safe comfortable environment conducive to learning.
