<![CDATA[As President of the Carrboro Merchants Association, I would like nothing more than to see a resurgent Franklin Street - perhaps led by the terrific shops on West Franklin Street - which many simply call "The West End." Earlier this year, in attempt to help preserve the unique Carrboro experience, 21 merchants banded together to create the Walk Carrboro campaign - the maps, banners, website (www.walkcarrboro.com) and local enthusiasm is all focused on preserving the character and charm that people claim Chapel Hill and Franklin Street have lost.

<![CDATA[I was just in Chapel Hill earlier this week, and was saddened to see all the empty stores. I now live near Tulsa, where Chapel Hill's economic development director, Dwight Bassett, is from.

<![CDATA[What about W. Franklin St., that side seems to be quite successful, what with better dining options and music clubs, that is the side near Carrboro (you know, the cooler side of Chapel Hill)... maybe it's Carrboro's coolness that is influencing the western side of C-Hill, yes, that must be it!!!
